Join the movement: The Sustainable Palm Oil Choice

In order to increase market acceptance for sustainable pam oil, a group of NGOs and companies created The Sustainable Palm Oil Choice (SPOC). SPOC is a movement for 100% CSPO in Europe. Companies, NGOs and governmental organisations committed to CSPO are invited to speak up. We share our commitments, best practices, successes, struggles and future plans.

On the website www.sustainablepalmoilchoice.eu more than 20 participants already tell their stories inspiring others to also choose sustainable palm oil. By inviting more companies and organizations to join, together we can drive full market transformation in Europe!

EPOA was at the AgriFood Summit Politico

At the AgriFood Summit Politico organized in Paris on 26 September 2019, EPOA chair Frans Claassen stressed the shared responsibility on making palm oil in Europe 100% sustainable. He explained EPOAs strategy to support the 11 initiatives across Europe committed to sustainable palm oil and the cooperation with the private sector, NGOs and the government.

A good read

As a part of EPOA’s Thought Leadership Campaign an article about the Sustainable Palm Oil Choice, was published in FoodNavigator.

Scientific article: Palm Oil on the Edge

The Spanish Foundation for Sustainable Palm Oil initiated a study on palm oil which resulted in an article ‘Palm Oil on the Edge’ in the scientific magazine Nutrients. The study includes food safety, nutritional and sustainability aspects and is the first European consensus document about palm oil. The main conclusions are that sustainably produced palm oil can be helpful to local economies and the environment in the producing countries. And a moderate intake of palm oil within a healthy diet does not present any health risk.

Sir David Attenborough supports sustainable palm oil

The new BBC documentary series ‘Seven World One Planet’ celebrates the diversity of life on each of our seven continents. The series is narrated and presented by naturalist Sir David Attenborough who we are proud to quote here explaining the challenges orangutans face in the Indonesian rainforests:

“The balance between our needs and conservation is hard, but we can offer a vital lifeline for our forest relatives. We may be able to protect them through simple choices like buying products made with deforestation-free sustainable palm oil”.
