The Sustainable Palm Oil Choice: active and inspiring!
To transform the industry towards 100 % sustainable and inclusive palm oil supply chains, companies need to take action. The Sustainable Palm Oil Choice (SPOC) is a coalition of companies and NGOs who are convinced that palm oil can play a positive role in society when produced sustainably. What activities has the SPOC movement undertaken so far?
Frontrunners
Aiming to inspire others, SPOC developed 8 recommendations for companies who want to be a Palm Oil Frontrunner as a guideline for taking action.
Best practices
SPOC is currently working on a number of new best practices articles with sustainable palm oil frontrunner companies that we expect to come out during the coming months. SPOC's best practices series highlights how companies engage for sustainable palm oil and aims to inspire other businesses to follow in their footsteps.
Webinars
In the past year, SPOC organised a total of 6 webinars to contribute to more balanced communication around palm oil in Europe. Under the title 'Let's talk Palm Oil - Meet the experts". specialists in the palm oil supply chain discussed various topics. The webinars were attended by a broad variety of stakeholders as well as private sector representatives. SPOC also shared with the National Initiatives a small communication support toolkit to help with the dissemination of the webinars.
Blogs
Already eight blogs about the importance of Sustainable Palm Oil are written for SPOC. Among others, Michelle Desilets, Conservationist and Executive Director Orangutan Land Trust; Matin Qaim, Professor of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development, University of Goettingen, Germany; Stefan Kausch, Representative of the Swiss Palm Oil Network and most recently Catherine Barton, Field Conservation Manager, Chester Zoo were responsible for well thought out articles which we shared via social media.
Impact on the ground
A new initiative of SPOC is to develop monthly stories about the impacts of sustainable palm oil on the ground, highlighting how sustainable palm oil production contributes to reducing poverty or improved biodiversity values. The stories will be published on the SPOC website and promoted by social media channels : Twitter and LinkedIn.
